How to reset your email password with SmarterMail

To be able to reset the password to your SmarterMail account, you will need to make sure you specifiy a backup email address for that account in the webmail interface. Your password cannot be reset unless this has been done.
Emails should have strong passwords - Utiware recommends using the Strong Password Generator Website at http://www.strongpasswordgenerator.com/ to generate strong passwords that are hard to hack

If you have forgotten your password and do not yet have a backup email address set for the account, follow the instructions 

To add a backup email address, follow these instructions:

  1. Log into the SmarterMail webl interface (e.g. http://webmail.yourdomain.com) with the email address you want to add a backup email address to.
  2. Click the Settings icon (2 cogs) on the menu to your left.
  3. Expand the "My Settings" folder and click on "Account Settings".
  4. Click the "User" tab.
  5. In the "Backup Email Address" field, enter the email address you want to use as a backup. This email address should not be another email address on your domain.
  6. Click on the "Save" button.

If you already have a backup email address set, follow these instructions to reset your email password:

  1. Open your webmail interface's URL (e.g. http://webmail.yourdomain.com) in a web browser.
  2. Click on the "Forgot your Password?" link on the right side above the "Password" field.
  3. In the "Email Address" field, type in the full email address of the email account for which you are trying to reset the password.
  4. Enter the CAPTCHA text in the blank field under the CAPTCHA image.
  5. Click the "OK" button".

The password reset email will then be sent to the backup email address specified for that email account.

NOTE: The same generic error will display whether the email address does not exist, the email account is suspended, or if there is no backup email address set for the email account.
